Nothing says Best Friends Forever like mosquito repellant!! Yesterday, we were making shoe lace friendship bracelets outside at the cottage. While swatting at the bugs, I remembered an article I had read about mosquito repelling bracelets on http://www.onegoodthingbyjillee.com and figured we could make these shoelace bracelets fashionably functional at keeping the bugs away!
You can use any knot you like. You can simply use the 4 strand braid we were making, you can use the instructions from the onegoodthingbyjillee link above or use these instructions on how to do a fancy version. But no matter what style you use, shoelaces or paracord will work best for absorbing and holding the home made Mosquito Repellant.
- 1 cup witch hazel
- 15 drops citronella essential oil
- 15 drops lemongrass essential oil
- 5 drops lavender essential oil (optional, replace with any essential oil smell you like)
- 5 drops peppermint essential oil (optional, replace with any essential oil smell you like)
Spray your finished bracelets on both sides with the mosquito repellant mixture so that they are fully wet all over, then let dry.
Now you can give these bracelets to your friends at camp and you can all wear them around the campfire to discourage those pesky bugs from making you into their personal s’more. Just remind your friends not to get them wet, as this will dilute the potency of the repellant. Happy bug-free trails!
