Chocolate Pretzel Screams

pretzel screams1As you can see we are working with a Halloween theme this October and these Chocolate Covered Pretzel Screams are right on target. A little salty, a little sweet (Ok A LOT sweet) with a touch of spooky make this the perfect Halloween treat for you and your friends to munch whether your getting together for a study session, a halloween movie marathon or an all out costume party. These little screamers were inspired by Forkandbeans.com and modified with some inspiration from food.com. Happy Haunting!

Googly Eyes

INGREDIENTS
  • 1 cup Powdered Sugar (icing sugar)
  • 1 tsp. Cornstarch
  • 1 Tbsp. Corn Syrup
  • 2 tsp. Milk
  • ¼ tsp. Vanilla Extract
  • mini Chocolate Chips
INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Mix Powdered Sugar and Cornstarch together
  2. Add Corn Syrup, Milk, Vanilla
  3. Mix until combined into a thick gooey paste
  4. Transfer mixture to a piping bag or sandwich bag and cut an 1/2 inch hold in one corner.
  5. Pipe circles of “eyes” onto a wax paper lined baking sheet or cutting board about the size of a nickel. My batch made 52 eyes.
  6. Push mini chips into the middle of each “eye”
  7. Let set at room temperature.

Chocolate Covered Pretzels

INGREDIENTS
  • 2/3 cup Chocolate Chips
  • 1 tsp. Shortening
  • 25-50 Pretzels
INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Melt Chocolate Chips and Shortening in a double boiler over medium heat (ask for adult help with this if needed) stirring continuously
  2. Remove from heat
  3. Dip pretzels into Chocolate using tongs and let excess chocolate drip from pretzel before placing on wax paper lined baking sheet.
  4. Place two “Googly Eyes” in place on pretzels.
  5. Place tray of covered pretzels into freezer for 15-20 minutes
  6. Serve

  1. It doesn t take any more ease to celebrate Halloween than with these Dark Chocolate Covered Pretzel Screams. Talk about simplicity, all you need is a good handful of gluten-free pretzels, melted dark chocolate to dip them into and a batch of homemade googly eyes . Easy as Frankenstein Pie, right?
